1. SUNFLOWERS STILL LIFE I - SOLD !
APPROXIMATE AGE: FROM ABT. 1945-50.
THE ARTIST: Preben Rasmussen (1919 - 1970) Well-listed Danish Expressionist.Preber Rasmussen was only eleven years old when he began his painting career During the course of his life, he made steady trips throughout Europe concentrating of France, Italy and Switzerland. Of his many paintings, most depict Paris, especially Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. Like Camille Pissarro, he regularly painted the same scenes at different times in order to create the diversity of light and darkness as the day progressed.
Preben Rasmussen can not be found in Davenport or any other major Art Encyclopdia, as he was not considered a great artist considered a great artist by many of his contemporaries when he was at the peak of his painting career in the 1950-1960´s although a few art critics appreciated his art. I have here a Newspaper clipping from the 1950´s from "Berlingske Tidende" (the leading Danish Newspaper): "A Fine Artist (+ a photo of P.R.)
The landscape painter Preben Rasmussen has just returned from one on his annual trips to Switzerland, Italy and France , where he has painted many beautiful paintings. A part of these he has brought with him home to Denmark and will now start arranging another exhibition, where also a selection of his very realistic Danish landscape paintings can be found.
Preben Rasmussen, who was born in Copenhagen I 1919 started to make drawings already when he was eleven years old, but the pencil was very fast replaced by the brush and oil colours inspired by his ideal the very well known artist Piet Hoejlesen.
His interest for the young painter can today be truly recognized in his colour composition and to a very high extent also in his landscape paintings. But it is his frequent stay in Paris who really had opened his eyes for the true art of painting. He was originally a naturalist using also Van Gogh and Gauguin as model and combining this with the inspiration from Piet Hoejlesen has achieved a somewhat more specific artistic effect.
At the time P.R. was more or less only known in Denmark, where his paintings until recently could be purchased at very modest prices. Today he is of some reason getting extremely popular in the USA and as a matter of fact I can sell all the P.R. paintings I can lay my hand on - in particular in the USA, where he many years after his death has become extremely popular.

The Life and Death of Vincent Van Gogh (1988)
The Art and Science of Creating Great Presentations
Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement that began as a loose association of Paris-based artists exhibiting their art publicly in the 1860s. The name of the movement is derived from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant), which provoked the critic Louis Leroy to coin the term in a satiric review published in Le Charivari.Characteristics of Impressionist paintings include visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles. The emergence of Impressionism in the visual arts was soon followed by analogous movements in other media which became known as Impressionist music and Impressionist literature.Impressionism also describes art created in this style, but outside of the late 19th century time period.
